Creating a Vegetable Garden

Stacey Curcio is a Naturopath who focuses on the very interesting topic around eco nutrition, which we discuss in one of my recent podcasts.

During the podcast Stacey and I discuss the very extensive topic around soil health, food processing, and the now, nutrient-dense foods we are noticing on shelves across Australia. Stacey explains how with the recent rise of fertilisers, animals breeds, and then the travel of food from the paddock, processing, storage time, all play a huge role in the depleting of required nutrients.

It is because of this we are starting to see a revolution around home gardening. A topic that Stacey is passionate about as it gives us the ability to work within our environment, which ultimately works to our benefit.

We asked Stacey what her top tips are for creating a vegetable garden at home.

Just start

Start small, with some simple herbs you enjoy, and then keep growing. Build your confidence.

Be a student of your landscape

Take the time to get to know your landscape. What is your climate like? What about seasonal changes? All of these factors play a huge roll in the success of your garden.

Always be improving your soil health.

Consider rotation planting. Keep on top of your compost. Use animals (worms, pigs, chooks.)

Accept that there will be failures.

There will be things you spend time and money on that just don't work. It is important to not get discouraged. It is all a learning curve.

We hope that this blog helps you to understand how to start your vegetable garden. If you would like to listen to this podcast click here
